MCS launches Low Carbon Landscapes at the Houses of Parliament
24th February 2023
Earlier this week, MCS attended the Houses of Parliament to celebrate the launch of our Low Carbon Landscapes campaign, comprising several data-driven tools including our interactive Data Dashboard.
The MCS Data Dashboard showcases the uptake and distribution of small-scale renewables across the UK and provides dynamic visualisations in near-to-real time.
It’s our way of showcasing the valuable data available to MCS and making our insights publicly available and free-to-use for everyone for the first time.
The day began with afternoon tea on the Pavilion Terrace, followed by insightful speeches from our guest speakers: Lord Callanan, Helen Morgan MP and Dr Alan Whitehead MP.
Helen Morgan spoke first as the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities representative for the Liberal Democrats, who sponsored the event. She welcomed guests to the event and discussed the importance of collaboration and policy insight in the renewables sector, before handing to our CEO Ian to introduce the MCS Data Dashboard.
After Ian spoke, he introduced Dr Alan Whitehead, the Shadow Minister for Green New Deal and Energy. Dr Whitehead shared his experience with domestic renewable energy and set out a commitment to deliver a national retrofit strategy and a small-scale energy revolution if Labour were to be elected at the next General Election.
Lord Callanan closed the event, speaking to the audience about how we provide the renewables industry with long term certainty and raise consumer awareness about renewables. He also restated the Government’s commitment to their target of installing 600,000 heat pumps a year by 2028. Before leaving, he answered questions from our guests relating to consumer confidence, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, increasing diversity in the industry, and a clear direction of travel for the future of low-carbon heating.
The day was an amazing opportunity to bring MPs, Peers, industry experts, trade associations and MCS certified installers together to share ideas, inspiration and challenges about the future of renewables in the UK.
With rising energy costs, climate change affecting us all, and a drive towards net zero, low carbon technology has a huge role to play in the future of UK energy. As home-grown energy moves to the forefront of everyone’s minds and fuels our national conversations about doing our part to go green, events like this are vital to ensure that future is a positive one.
We would like to thank all our friends, colleagues and stakeholders for taking the time to participate in the event and making it such a success. It was fantastic to see so many inspiring industry members choosing to stay and network, collaboration is key to our work.
We look forward to continuing to work with you all in future as we continue to support the UK with the expansion of small-scale renewables and giving confidence in home-grown energy.
