Certificate Queries
An MCS certificate is proof that your installation has been designed, installed & commissioned to the highest standard using only MCS certified products by an MCS certified installer. Please note that an MCS certificate is not a mandatory or legal requirement for system installation.
In order to obtain an MCS certificate, the installation must meet all of the following three requirements:
- Commissioned by an MCS certified Installation Company
- Include an MCS certified product
- Have a commissioning date after 15th July 2009
MCS certified Installers are required to issue the MCS Certificate to the customer directly. This should be within 10 days of the system being commissioned.
CHECKING A CERTIFICATE EXISTS
You can check whether an MCS Certificate exists by calling the MCS Helpdesk. You will need to know the technology type of the system and the full address (including postcode) of where the system is installed.
If you have never received a certificate, if you require a copy of your certificate or, if you require an amendment, you should contact your original MCS certified installer in the first instance to request this.
How can I obtain a copy of my MCS certificate?
If you require a copy of the certificate, please contact your Installer in the first instance to request this. MCS is only able to generate the certificate on behalf of the Installer for customers if:
- The Installer is no longer MCS certified
- The Installer is no longer trading
If this is the case, the MCS Helpdesk Team will support you in obtaining a copy of your MCS certificate. Certificates will be generated within 10 working days. Note that MCS certificate copies can only be provided to the current system owner or their legal representative.
To request a copy of your certificate, we require:
- Proof of ownership
- Payment of admin fee
For proof of ownership, one of the following four items are accepted:
- A fully paid invoice marked paid by the original MCS Installer (i.e. the installation company)
- The original invoice with the corresponding bank statements showing full payment has been made
- A formal letter from a solicitor, on headed paper, stating that the customer is the owner of the system in question
- A Feed-in Tariff statement
Note that, proof of ownership of the property is not proof of ownership of the system.
MCS will not be held liable for any issues with your system, including product failure or installation failure. We are only able to provide the MCS certificate based on the information you have provided to us, and this is no guarantee of access to any government incentive schemes.
To request your copy, please complete this form, attaching the appropriate evidence.
How can I amend my MCS certificate?
You may need to amend your MCS certificate if you have had your meter changed, or due to an administration error when originally creating the MCS certificate.
If you require an amendment to your certificate, please contact your original Installer in the first instance to request this.
MCS is only able to amend the certificate on behalf of the Installer for customers if:
- The Installer is no longer MCS certified.
- The Installer is no longer trading.
If your original installer is no longer MCS certified, or no longer trading, ONLY the MCS Helpdesk will have access to your certificate to make the amendment. No other installers will have access to your certificate.
If this is the case, the MCS Helpdesk Team will support you amending your MCS certificate. Certificates will be generated within 10 working days. Note that amendments to MCS certificates can only be requested by the current system owner or their legal representative.
To request an amendment of your certificate, we require:
- Proof of ownership
- Evidence of amendment (as detailed below)
- Payment of admin fee
For proof of ownership, one of the following four items are accepted:
- A fully paid invoice marked paid by the original MCS Installer (i.e. the installation company)
- The original invoice with the corresponding bank statements showing full payment has been made

Evidence is required for each amendment needed. Examples of common amendments, and the associated evidence, is shown in the table below:

How can I obtain a new MCS certificate?
There may be an instance when you have had an MCS certified Installer complete an installation using MCS certified products, but you were never issued with your MCS certificate.
Unfortunately, in this instance, we are unable to help in raising a new certificate for you.
THE COST OF COPY CERTIFICATES OR AMENDMENT REQUESTS
To cover administrative costs there is a charge of £30 +VAT (£36 in total) payable before a copy certificate is issued. The fee covers one MCS certificate copy, with any number of amendments.
We’ll assess the evidence to confirm if it’s sufficient for a certificate to be issued. If it is, we’ll email you a PayPal payment request. Once payment is received, the MCS certificate will be provided within 10 working days.
Refund Requests
A refund may be granted in the following scenarios, supported by evidence:
- The payor is found to be ineligible to receive a certificate.
- The payor changes their mind before any processing work has been undertaken.
- Payment(s) made in error.
To request a refund please email mcshelpdesk@mcscertified.com with the reason for the refund request and the payment transaction ID, within 14 days of purchase. Refunds will be processed at the original purchase value and via the original payment method.
MCS COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATE
MCS introduced Compliance Certificates for heat generating technologies. Compliance Certificates are effectively checklists which confirm that your heating system was installed according to MCS Standards and records key information about the heating system. Your Installer should ensure that you are provided with a copy of your Compliance Certificate.
