MCS announces Board-level changes

MCS Charitable Foundation has re-organised the Board of the MCS Service Company, its trading subsidiary, to improve governance and prepare the group for its next phase.

The adjustments retain the established legal structure of charity and separate trading company and create a stronger oversight and alignment between the two Boards to support a new and more integrated strategy for the MCS Group. This approach will maximise the synergies between the MCS Service Company and the MCS Charitable Foundation and better equip the MCS Group to play a central role in driving the decarbonisation of the UK’s homes and buildings.

The MCS Service Company Board will now comprise three Charity Trustees, the Charity CEO, Company CEO and two independent Directors.

The new Board is:

  • Company CEO, Ian Rippin, with experience of leading complex, technical service organisations within the Testing, Inspections and Certification sector.
  • Charity CEO, Adrian Ramsay, an experienced leader in the UK environmental sector with a background in local government and national politics.
  • Independent Director, Jackie Graveney, an experienced communications consultant and coach, who remains in post.
  • Trustee Gareth Williams, an experienced entrepreneur who runs a renewable energy installation business and is on the board of a number of local and national sustainability organisations.
  • Trustee, Nick Whitaker, a chartered accountant, former partner in a large accountancy firm and experienced Non-Executive Director.
  • Trustee, Dr Magdalena Zarowiecki, a senior scientist in the biotech sector with extensive experience in the growth of early-stage companies.

Recruitment for a further independent Director is planned later this year.

Chris Roberts, Catrin Maby and Tim Lunel have stepped down as Non-Executive Directors. Chris and Catrin have transitioned to senior advisory roles to the MCS Group and will continue to work with Ian Rippin and Adrian Ramsay on strategic projects.

Fabio Nehme, Chair of MCS Charitable Foundation, said: “We have ambitious plans for our next phase in supporting our stakeholders and sector’s growth, and these changes will allow us to deliver that more effectively by better harnessing all our resources across the MCS Group in standards, sector intelligence, research, advocacy, grant-giving and sector leadership.” Fabio added “I want to also thank the departing Non-Executive Directors for their immense contributions over the years to help build what is the MCS Service Company today.”

MCS has pioneered the installation of small-scale renewable energy technology across Britain. By 2020, there were 1.2 million MCS registered installations and nearly 2000 accredited renewable installers across the United Kingdom.  The organisation’s vision is to see MCS certified products and installations in every UK home and community.
